MEDIN Metal and MEDIN Ceramic

The basic shape of the hip ball head is spherical. For an extra long design the ball head is elongated by means of a cylindrical part to guarantee minimal length of the spherical surface. A self-locking cone is used to fix the ball head to the femoral component of the hip joint.

Hip ball heads are produced in a diameter of 28 mm, 32 mm a 36 mm. Self-locking cones for the fixation on the femoral stem are manufactured in diameter proportions 14/16 and 12/14 (angle 5°43’30“+5).

Metal ball heads are supplied in basic sizes “S”, “M”, “L”, prolonged sizes “XL” and eventually “XXL” in diameter proportions 12/14 and 14/16 (diameter 28 and 32 mm). Ceramic ball heads are made in sizes “S”, “M”, “L” and a cone for holding on a femoral stem in proportion of diameters 12/14 (angle5°43‘30“+5).

Metal ball head replacements of hip joint are made of commonly used materials so that they could be used in combination with femoral component of femoral stem without combination of different types of materials. The following materials are used for metal heads: stainless steel FeNiCr according to ISO 5832/1 and ISO 5832/9, alloy CoCrMo according to ISO 5832/4 and alloy Ti6Al4V (ISO 5832/3), provided with a coating on a contact surface resistant against abrasive wear (e.g. ceramic coating Carbon Inert).

Ceramic ball head replacements of hip joint are made of sintered micro-grain polycrystalline corundum that complies with ISO 6474.

MEDIN CEP and MEDIN CEP Bipolar

Basic shape of the ball head is spherical that replaces contact surface of ball head. CEP head is made as one part, ball head CEP-Bipolar is on the other hand assembled of three separate components that cannot be taken apart – metal coat of spherical shape, PE insert and inner metal hip head with self–locking cone, the same as CEP head, for holding on a femoral component of hip joint.

CEP ball heads are made in size “S” of diameters from 40 mm to 60 mm (on request also “M” and “L”). From size 50 mm diameter are the heads unloaded. CEP Bipolar ball heads are made in sizes “S”, “M”, “L” (on special request also prolonged size “XL”), of diameters from 42 to 58 mm.

Diameters of both ball heads are after two millimetres e.g. 42, 44 etc. Self-locking cones for the fixation on the femoral stem are manufactured in diameter proportions 12/14 (angle 5°43’30“+5).

Used materials: Ball heads CEP and CEP Bipolar are made of commonly used materials so that they could be used in combination with femoral component of femoral stem without combination of different types of materials.

Metal ball heads CEP are made of stainless steel FeNiCr according to ISO 5832/1 and ISO 5832/9. Metal ball heads CEP Bipolar are made of stainless steel FeNiCr according to ISO 5832/1 and ISO 5832/9 and PE insert is made of low-pressure high-molecular polyethylene (UHMWPE) according to ISO 5834/2.

Usage of MEDIN ball heads:

MEDIN hip ball heads can be applied on stems about which the producer informs the angle of self–locking cone 5°43’30“-5 (angle minus tolerance) and identical nominal sizes of cone diameters.

Caution:

Metal replacements of ball heads made of stainless steel FeNiCr cannot be used in combination with other materials of femoral stem. Ball heads made of alloys CoCrMo and Ti are not to be combined with femoral stems made of FeNiCr. Ball heads made of alloy Ti6Al4V are suitable for use mainly on femoral stems made of Ti alloy.

Contraindication:
